Premium diesel additives
Premium Diesel Additives are intended to allow product differentiation
by the provision of additional technical features that can be advertised
by the fuel marketers.
Infineum offers multifunctional diesel fuel additives (Infineum F
series) which can be formulated to include the following features:
- Detergency
Fuel injector spray patterns are key to an efficient combustion process
in diesel engines. Deposition of carbonaceous, combustion waste products
on the injector can have a detrimental effect on the spray pattern which
may result in increased emissions and decreased fuel economy.

Optimum spray pattern |
Detergent additives help maintain an optimum fuel spray pattern resulting
in:
- Reduced combustion noise
- Reduced emissions and black smoke
- Maintenance of the injector system in peak condition, preventing
deterioration in fuel economy and extending vehicle life.
- Antirust
The fuel distribution system, from refinery through to the combustion
chamber of the vehicle, is susceptible to corrosion from water that
may be present in the fuel. Antirust additives help reduce rust formation
in fuel storage and delivery systems resulting in reduced maintenance
of pipes and tanks and reduced risk of filter blocking due to rust deposits.
- Antifoam
Antifoam additives help reduce the tendency of diesel to foam in fuel
delivery systems resulting in faster and cleaner (no spillage) tank
fill. Antifoam additives enable the maximum amount of fuel possible
to be added during the fill stop.
- Fuel Stability
Thermal and oxidative degradation of diesel fuel is a common problem
which can result in fuel darkening, deposits, and filter blockage. Fuel
stabiliser systems can reduce fuel darkening, reduce the risk of stalling
due to filter blockage, reduce maintenance costs of replacement filters
and ultimately contribute to less vehicle downtime.
- Demulsibility
Diesel fuel containing polar molecules will form emulsions with free
water. Demulsifiers prevent the formation of water/fuel emulsions.
- Increased Cetane Number
Cetane number improver improves diesel fuel combustion characteristics
resulting in:
- Reduced starting time in cold weather
- Reduced engine noise
- Reduced white smoke during warm up
- Reduced emissions
- Maximum power
- De-icer
Provides fuel “anti-icing” protection when free water may
contaminate the fuel.
- Improved Lubricity Characteristics
Lubricity improvers provide improved fuel lubrication characteristics
to severely hydro-desulphurised fuels (e.g. ultra-low sulphur diesel
fuel) and help prevent wear to fuel pumps and fuel injectors
- Improved Cold Flow Properties
When middle distillate fuels are cooled to temperatures below their
cloud points, wax crystals form within the fuel which can block vehicle
fuel filters. Cold flow additives provide improved pour point and operability
(CFPP/LTFT) performance which:
- reduces the risk of wax plugging filters and lines
- improves fuel handling
- improves low temperature vehicle operability (as measured by CFPP
and other cold flow performance tests)
- may offer improved refining economics through upgrading of heavier
products to the diesel pool (or kerosene upgrading to jet).
