Infineum USA L.P. was Recertified as an OSHA
VPP STAR Site
LINDEN, NEW JERSEY (June 23, 2003) The two Infineum facilities
located in Linden were recently recertified as Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
STAR sites for their safety and health programs. Infineum’s
Bayway Chemical Plant and the Linden Business and Technology Center
are two of 35 sites in New Jersey to receive this prestigious award.
The OSHA VPP STAR program recognizes companies that have been
exemplary in reducing workplace hazards through management and employee
cooperation.
In the fall of 2002, a team of auditors reviewed safety plans
and programs and conducted employee interviews to verify their participation
and knowledge of the safety and health systems in a week’s
time.
OSHA VPP STAR Award recipients are characterized by a quality-based
approach to excellence, a management commitment to the safety and
health of employee and customers, an employee’s knowledge
of safety and health programs and their responsibilities, a three-year
injury rate that is 63 percent below industry average, and “above
average” housekeeping.
“We are proud to be recognized by OSHA as a company that
puts safety in the forefront,” said Infineum CEO Tony Gaskell.
“Providing a safe work place for our employees and publicly
acknowledging our commitment to employee health and welfare promotes
employee pride and enhances industry standards,” Gaskell added.
“It’s a pleasure to come to a celebration like this
to see what can be done when management and the production workers
at a facility get together with one goal in mind and that is to
make sure it’s a safe workplace,” said OSHA Region II
VPP Manager, Norman Deitch.
“Infineum is a facility that makes sure you have the training
and, the protective gear, and that you communicate with each other
so that you have the excellent record that you have,” said
Len Katz, assistant commissioner, NJ Department of Labor.
“I’ve lived in Elizabeth for more than 40 years and
I’ve always known that I’ve always gone to sleep without
any concerns of problems here,” said Angel Estrada, vice-chair
of the Union County Freeholders, when talking about the peace of
mind a safe site such as Infineum gives to him.
Infineum celebrated its achievement with employees, OSHA representatives,
public officials, and other area industry representatives at Infineum’s
Bayway Chemical Plant on May 30th and at the Linden Business and
Technology Center on June 13th. Congratulatory letters, proclamations,
and resolutions were received from Governor James E. McGreevey,
the New Jersey Department of Labor, the New Jersey Senate and General
Assembly, the Union County Board of Chosen freeholders, and the
City of Linden.
