Infineum Establishes Liaison Office in Beijing
Expands Presence in China Petroleum Additives Market

Infineum, one of the leading companies in the petroleum additives industry, announced today that it has opened a liaison office in Beijing.

Infineum, which was established on January 1, 1999, is a joint venture between Exxon Chemical Company, Shell Petroleum Company Ltd. and Shell Oil Company. It supplies its products to oil companies and lubricant marketers, which use petroleum additives to produce finished lubricants and fuels.

"Infineum provides advanced additive products and services to customers around the globe through a world-wide research and development, manufacturing and supply network," Tom Dance, Vice President - Asia Pacific of Infineum said. "We have a heritage of over six decades of developing high-quality fuel, lubricant and speciality additives. Because China's petroleum additive market has enormous potential, it was natural for us to open an office in Beijing."

"We are very excited about our future in China," said Lim Wee Chiong, China Country Manager of Infineum. "Our new Beijing liaison office will allow us to explore further opportunities for investment and technology transfer to our joint venture partners. In addition, it will permit us to provide even better service to our many local customers, which include Great Wall, Gao Qiao, Maoming, Yiping, Shell China, Mobil China, Esso China, Caltex and Castrol."

Infineum's development in China is supported by the Jinex's group of companies. At present, Infineum's products are marketed in China through Shanghai Jinex Additives Co., Ltd. Jinzhou Jinex Lubricant Additive Company manufactures additive products.

Jinex was established in 1995 as a joint venture between Exxon Chemical Eastern Inc. and Jinzhou Petrochemical Company. Exxon is transferring its share in Jinex to Infineum. Infineum's technology will be used in Jinex and the products made will bear the Infineum brand name. The objective of Jinex is to become the first domestic integrated additive plant offering international standard additive products in China.

Infineum, which has about 2,000 employees worldwide, has three business units - Crankcase Lubricant Additives, Fuel Additives and Speciality Lubricant Additives. Infineum has research and development facilities in the UK, US, Japan and Singapore; manufacturing plants in 19 countries; and sales and marketing representation in 70 markets.
